Giuseppelamatrice suggested on Mattermost to improve the UI by adding a red colour border on the mandatory fields. It is a practice used in many other applications and it improves the UX.
I would suggest to add it just when creating a new record on empty mandatory fields (similar to how the mandatory label styling works now). I attached an image for reference.
Not a fan of the new look. Anyway, perhaps we should have a way to collect feedback from the community before implement an UI change that will effect every screen and every one ?
Hi / ,
I completely agree with asking the community and letting them decide.
For me, the most important part of the ticket and would like it to push to the core, even if the visual effects don’t get there, is that the ticket removes the styling from the java class and moves it to the CSS files. In that way, everyone can decide in their own theme how to present those fields, there’s a lot of hardcoded styling that we should move out to CSS files.
Not my preferred, neither Heng Sin's - but community voted:
At this moment:
both label and field red (39)
the current way (10)
showing red the field borders instead of the label (3)
Anyways, this can be changed in theme.
I was testing in the test server that this ticket also provides the visualization of mandatory fields on GridMode (which is a big plus), but I noticed that there is a minor bug, the mandatory style is applied for the advanced search fields as well (see the attached image).
I uploaded the patch to solve the issue.
